Resubscribed

I was given a 6 month subscription as a present. When it ran out I really missed it. Its been a while but I have resubscribed. I love the taste and love the fact you can recycle the pouches.

Wouldn't go back

Have been a subscriber for almost a year now and love this olive oil and importantly the concept, including the option to return empty pouches (which we save up for 5/6 months ans send back using the same box. Great customer service too. Couldn't recommend enough.

Unfortunately you can get 4x as much single estate oil for the same price if you know where to look.

I assumed each month would bring an oil from a new farm but so far they’ve all been from the same one.

The packaging has to be sent off to be recycled so probably justless efficient than traditional glass or metal tins.

Of your £13 a month from what I gather just £0.13 goes towards rebuilding soil ecosystems.

The oil itself if lovely so all credit to the producers themselves but I fear there’s a lot of slick marketing and bluster involved in the supply chain.

Their idea for removing middle men from the olive oil industry appears to be.. being a middle man.

Perhaps a platform linking customers and farmers/millers directly would benefit them more?

I’d be interested to know a transparent breakdown of the sales price to know if I’m being an unfair curmudgeon, but I will be switching back to nice tins from a Greek food supplier for now.

Hi Tom! Thank you for your honest feedback on our Greek oil. We tried to respond via email but it keeps bouncing, so thought we'd at least share here....

While it is of course disappointing to hear we haven't done a good enough job of communicating our values, we're very happy to hear that you liked the taste of Maria's EVOO from Crete!

When we started out, we saw that there was a lack of transparency around where most of the olive oils commonly available in the UK come from, how they're made, and who makes them. There's also a lot of misinformation about the health benefits of extra virgin olive oil and how to ensure what you're getting is fresh. So we do our very best to showcase the farmers, putting their name on every bottle and pouch, as well as the incredible places where they're made, because where it comes from really does have an impact on flavour.

It's an awful system and we're trying to break that chain, so you get honest, transparent products that taste every bit as good as the producers intend them to.

We want you to know how seriously we take your comments. Genuinely, this kind of feedback really helps us improve and we take all of your points on board. We've tried to email you on the specifics, but we'll put in a blog post as well to make it all a bit more clear point by point.

If you'd like to discuss anything further, please do drop us a line and we'd be happy to chat at oliveus@citizensofsoil.com.
