Meet the producers: the López family.
We are always inspired by how farming and nature can support each other—and connecting with the López family shows us how this can be done well.
Certified as a brand of the natural park by the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment, Andrea and Antonio are involved in biodiversity projects and work to support the socioeconomics and planetary resources of this protected area across olive oil and their rural family hotel. Their committed to this won them gold at last year's Ecotrama awards—a prestigious international awards recognising quality, sustainability, and commitment to organic farming.
Alongside Picual they cultivate the Picudo variety, an olive native to the area. Many growers have been tearing these trees down because they are not as productive as other varieties, but the López family have been safeguarding them, supporting and helping to maintain diverse cultivars for more than 100 years.
The region.
Driving south from the culture-rich city of Córdoba, you’ll enter another Andalucían wonder: the Subbética Mountains Natural Park.
Part of the Betic mountain range, it’s packed with unique biodiversity as well a deep human history. It’s rugged and breathtaking—and it’s something worth protecting.
How to pair it: Seasonal recipe spotlight.
Sweet pears sit in rich crème fraîche, steeped in spoonfuls of warmly-spiced syrup. A generous pour of new season EVOO gives it a unique savoury note.
Indulgent, but healthy, this dessert is rich in vitamin C & K from the pear (absorbed better by the body thanks to the presence of olive oil), as well as plenty of antioxidants. A perfect shareable Valentine’s dessert, or a comforting dish for any time during these colder months.
