Introducing a new oil from a multi-award winning producer from the Istrian Peninsula in Croatia. They champion rare, local varieties and create insanely-high quality olive oils in a sustainable way on their 10-hectare plot. Their Croatian olive oil is loved by chefs like Gordon Ramsay and it made top-10 globally for small-batch oils with some of the highest international scores at the prestigious EVOOLEUM awards.

Harvest: October 2024.
Variety: Field blend of Buža, Bjelica, Karbonaca, Moražola, Rožinjola, and Leccino.
Polyphenols: 399 mg/kg.
Origin: Vodnjan, Istria, Croatia.
Process: Superior category extra virgin olive oil obtained directly from mechanical (never heat or chemical) means; 0.11 acidity. The olives are milled within hours of being picked. This oil is filtered.
Agriculture: 10 hectares, organically-farmed with regenerative practices.
Soil type: Terra rossa and limestone.
Twenty years ago, Lena’s father, Silvano, revitalised an overgrown olive grove. On it lived 57 centennial trees, all of an indigenous local variety, Buža.

And from the moment Lena tried the juice from the fruits of these once-abandoned trees and experienced her first harvest, she knew that this was her calling.

The whole family now works on their small-batch oils, hand harvested and then milled in a state-of-the-art facility. This quality is reflected in their consistent wins:

Tastes like...

This is a field blend of indigenous varieties from the family’s single estate and, as an olive oil sommelier, I’m in awe of its balance.

Nose: Green almond, chicory, and green tomato. You'll smell the vibrancy; it's outstandingly fresh, green and complex.

Palate: It’s bringing a rounded bitterness, a good peppery kick, and all those green aromas come out on the palate too. The finish is long, but super clean, with no greasiness.

Sitting more in the “finishing oil” space, this oil has a vibrant green balance of flavours and notes that can go across a range of hot and cold dishes.

It really loves a risotto, sings in soups, is amazing in arugula salads, enjoys an aged cheese, and pairs beautifully with dark chocolate.

This early-harvest oil comes in at 399 mg/kg of total polyphenols, which is above the 250 mg/kg benchmark set by EU Regulation (No. 432/2012) about high-polyphenol olive oils.

Fabulous precious olive oil

This is another fantastic oil - I really cannot use anything else in my kitchen these days as they really are like liquid gold. Every single oil I’ve tried exceptionally good. This one perfect too.

I bought two bottles, they both had different quantities when the arrived new, not full to the top. Also very bitter, not sure what the fuss is

We're really sorry to hear you were disappointed by our EVOO Extra Rare set showcasing special oils from Tuscany and Croatia. This is obviously not the desired experience we'd like for our customers and so we'd love to help find an oil better suited to your taste. The two oils you selected are packed with polyphenols and are definitely on the more intense side. Our Greek oil is quite delicate and we find it is a nice one to start on as some people are not used to bitter or fruity oils. Do let us know if you'd like to try this instead. Lastly, our bottles are filled by weight so it might be that one mill has been a bit generous and has filled slightly above this minimum level but please do share photos so we can investigate further. A lovely oil to drink with a peppery note at the back of the throat. I have stopped taking pain killers for my chronic back pain since starting extra virgin olive oil. Having tried various oils I will be continuing with this brand.
