Introducing a multi-award winning single estate extra virgin olive oil from the Alto Alentejo wine region of Portugal. This oil is made one of the most inspiring producers we've ever met, Ana Cardoso, on her 10 hectare plot, where she farms *and* mills award-winning oils herself.
This is one of our "Extra Rare" limited batches and is best used as a finishing EVOO to keep the high level of antioxidants and peppery flavour intact.

Harvest: October 2023.
Variety: Galega.
Polyphenols: 799 mg/kg.
Origin: Fronteira, Alto Alentejo, Portugal.
Process: Superior category extra virgin olive oil obtained directly from mechanical (never chemical or heated) means. ≤ 0.15 acidity. The olives are milled within hours of being picked. This oil is filtered.
Agriculture: Organically-farmed with regenerative practices including grazing animals and a focus on biodiversity.
Soil type: Clay loam.
This oil is superbly made by Ana Cardoso and Paolo Morosi.

Tastes like...

Nose: The fragrance of apples, with olive leaves and fresh-cut green grass, followed by lemon peel.

Palate: It's like a bouquet of herbs. Clean. Moderately bitter. There's also a slightly sweet note, almost almond-like with a persistently peppery finish, like chile.

Cheesy dishes. Perfect for drizzling on tomato soups. Very happy in a martini. Dreamy in cacio e pepe.

I loved this, it was delicious, I have savoured every drop! I made some homemade hummus and drizzled this liberally over the top, in addition to some homemade Zaatar, loved it! Although, what I would say is this is best just from the spoon as the notes are just incredible!

Fast delivery, respectfully packaged (the bottle is well protected but nothing is excessive and wasteful) and really excellent product. Look forward to trying more of the Rare origin oils, the intensity of the portuguese bottling is unmatched by any evoo I can find in the supermarkets.

Simply drizzled on a bed of the sweetest vine tomatoes, toasted tomato and oregano sourdough with ribbons of pungent basil… pure heaven!

FAQs

The Olive Oil Club delivers a range of delicious oils throughout the year. At this time, you can't sign up for a subscription to just one oil, though you can order larger formats, sets, or our bottles when you need to top-up.
Our producers all farm organically to the EU standard without any synthetics or chemical "cides". However, as we only work with small farms, some have not yet been certified—which is why we cannot legally label them as “organic”, unless it has the certification. Many of them, though, are well on their way in the conversion and audit process (it takes a few years), so we hope to share more soon.
Currently, our Greek oil from Sparta is the only EVOO in our range that can carry the organic certification on its label.
Welcome you to the fascinating, yet very confusing world of extra virgin olive oil. We wrote an article all about the term "cold-pressed" if you'd like to read up in detail, but in short, it is just a marketing buzzword, as by legal definition in the EU, extra virgin olive oil is extracted without any heat or chemicals and only comes from the “first pressing” (more like squeezing) of the olives—which is exactly the definition of our products.
