Inspired by the Mediterranean and made in small batches over 5 days by the Salgueiro family in Porto, the Citizens of Soil ceramic is paired with the perfect pourer which allows for ideal flow of EVOO.

It’s one of our most requested products from our Olive Oil Club members since our launch in 2021, and we're so excited that we can finally share this with you.
If you know us, you know we don’t just launch products without a solid purpose, a connection to the land and community, and a thoughtful look at its environmental impact. So, when we decided to look into ceramics, we knew it had to be done right. Find out more about the journey.
After finding the right partner in Portugal and working with them on exactly the requirements—mould of our wine bottle shape, texture for grip (but one that wouldn’t stain from oil), easy to clean, neutral in colour, fits the perfect pourer—our founder went out to Portugal to meet the family behind production.
Look: stone finish and white gloss, 500ml, 31 (h) x 7.5 (w) x 7.5 (d) cm.

Glaze: glazed throughout with rough-touch lower half to help grip.

Origin: Porto, Portugal.

Process: Made from earthenware clay sourced in the Aveiro of Portugal and formed in a bespoke mould of our bottle, with the circle on the front and a stamp on the bottom.
Now in their third generation, the company was founded in the 1950s with a focus on producing figurative and decorative clay art.

By the 1970s, they were also doing pots and vases, and exporting their work to new markets across Europe.

In the early 2000s, the current generation stepped in with brothers Vitor and José Carlos Salgueiro, set out to equip the company with the tools needed to adapt to the demands of a changing world, while staying true to its history and roots. A story so similar to many of our multi-generational family olive producers.
Bottle is made from earthenware clay sourced in the Aveiro of Portugal.

Glaze is an enamel composed of glass powder and pigments (metal oxides to give colour) which during fusion melts, flows and hardens, forming a vitreous layer that adheres to the ceramic.

Pourer is a stainless steel with a Silicia gel plug.
Dishwasher safe, but simply rinsing with soap and water is recommended. For the Olive Oil Club, we recommend washing your ceramic after each new oil. If you are topping up with a refill or our Greek or Spanish EVOO we recommend every 3 months.

Oil and pourer

So glad I got both. Great control with the pourer.
One problem though; the oil is so good I’m going to run out much sooner than I thought!!

Looks nice, but oil leaks around the pourer

The oil pourer is larger enough to be practically useful. I appreciate that the body (bottle) is a hand made ceramic manufactured in Italy, which adds to the "romance" of a Mediterranean product. However, the gold spout/pourer (which appears to be retro-fitted to the bottle) doesn't quite fit the bottle to make the needed liquid-tight interface. The result is that a trickle of oil runs down the side of the bottle every time I use it. Four stars, could have been better.

So far so good. Just joined the club and I have the Cypriot oil in my bottle. The flavour is light with a peppery hit at the back of the throat.

The best

I am part way through by first batch, and it’s amazing, by far the best EVOO ive ever had, waaaaaaay much better than anything in the shops. Everyone should have this delivered to their house. Oh and the ceramic pourer ‘amazing’ and looks clean on the kitchen unit!
